Welcome to an infinite realm of joy! My name is Claire Bear

The story behind the art

The art I make is bold, colourful, and intentionally joyful. I want people who experience them to feel their cheeks lift into a smile almost instantly. Yet, the stories behind these pieces often come from places that needed that joy - moments that called for humour, lightness, and relief. Each artwork becomes a project of reflection, recall, and release, transforming personal experiences into something bright enough to hold and share.

Driven by memory and play

My art is deeply intertwined with my lived experiences. I draw from memory to create works that help me reflect, process, honour, and release. In recent months, my practice has become increasingly cathartic and autobiographical. Through making, I create something tangible that can hold a moment I’ve lived through - whether to preserve it or finally let it go.

Play is the method I return to again and again. It is a strategic kind of playfulness, rooted in curiosity and enjoyment. I approach art-making with the intention of keeping the process grounded and honest, even when recalling something painful, confusing, or joyful. Play allows me to move through my internal world with ease and authenticity. It becomes the most frictionless way to transform personal experiences into visual form.
